The documentation displayed claimed the duo were from the country they were trying to enter, having been staying at the Yacht and Paraguayan Club Hotel Resort in the city of Lambare after claiming to have been invited by Nelson Belotti, owner of the Il Palazzo casino.

At first it seemed as though the pair would be let off with a slap on the wrist after co-operating and telling police they got the passports from businessman Wilmondes Sousa Lira.

But after a court in Paraguay refused bail and rejected appeals for house arrest, both Ronaldinho and his brother are sharing a cell in Agrupación Especializada of the National Police of Paraguay.

And the irony about the whole ordeal is just days after one of the world’s greatest footballers entered the facility, the prison are staging a futsal tournament.

Extra say that the competition normally takes place every six months and so was planned prior to Ronaldinho’s arrival. Typically there are 194 inmates involved (no police officers because it’s not Mean Machine) and split into ten different teams.

The action gets under way on Monday and while Commissioner Blas Ver isn’t expecting the former Barcelona and AC Milan star to ruin everyone, he is hopeful of him turning up to watch.

In Paraguay, the maximum time for the investigation period is six months but Ronaldinho and his brother will be hopeful the process is completed a lot quicker.
